I bought some "Simpson Strong Tie" metal straps, about 2 to 2-1/2 inches wide and about 12to18 inches long. the heaviest gauge they had, almost 1/8" thick. I bent them at a 90 deg. angle in 2 spots to form a "u" I used about 4 but I wish I used 5 or 6 for the 8 or 10 foot span I have. they basically are now "U" shaped brackets bolted to the 4x4 cross beam in front, and screwed to the back of the fascia. I can send a pic if you like.

How did you connect it to your house. I can't see if you cut the gutter out or the system you've used to mount it. Any info would be helpful we're dealing with a similar situation and would like to avoid a second set of pillars for support.

Could you offer a suggestion to me? I have a guest apartment, completely remodeled in 2008 located on Cape Cod. My property abutts the antique Cape Cod Railroad and would make a great destination for train buffs. Where could I market this to capture this group?
Thanks in advance!

I am very glad I found your website. We are laying our patio (1050 sq. ft.) in a week or so. Although we are excited, we are also a little aprhensive. However the cost of hiring someone is absolutely ridiculous. I wondered what the pamphlet meant by the 2 pieces of pvc pipe or coduit needed. Thankyou for your pictures. It is crystal clear now!!

Nice job on the write up for your patio. My wife and i are putting in a brick patio (concrete pavers really) on the back of the house. We should be done in about the same time frame as you all, about 4-5 weekends. Its so hot tho during the day that we are limited to working the 6-9 and 6-9 times. Anyhow, it looks great and im sure the back yard is tons more enjoyable now.
